Summer is around the corner and that means it’s time to think about the place you’ll be spending a lot of your time in these next few months: the backyard. After months of cold weather and springtime pollen, there’s a good chance that your patio and outdoor furniture will need a touch-up before you break out the barbecue.
Learn how to properly clean your patio and outdoor furniture just in time for your next backyard bash!
The first thing you’ll want to avoid doing is letting the mess on your patio and outdoor furniture build up until the summer. This will make the cleaning process that much longer, and more difficult. So throughout those early months of spring, start backyard maintenance where possible—sweep as much as you can to avoid stains and keep an eye out for furniture fixes that can be easily attended to.
Spring is the best time to pressure wash, tackling the outdoor area before things get too hot.
There’s a right way and a wrong way to pressure wash patios and outdoor furniture. Let’s start with the wrong way first. The biggest “do not dos” are using a high-pressure nozzle and detergent on furniture or patios, nearby your home or windows—not only is this a safety hazard, but it can ruin your furniture before the summer even starts.
What you will want to do is attach a low-pressure nozzle, and put your furniture on flat ground, away from the house. Detergent should only be used if the patio or furniture is in really bad shape, but it’s usually not necessary—instead, you can use a brush to clean those items. You can utilize a higher-pressure nozzle on iron furniture, or tables, but a low-pressure nozzle should be used to rinse everything away in the end. Remember that this is your backyard, not a major construction site, so be gentle with your pressure washer and you’ll get the job done right.
